Another hit. Ugly Kid Joe (who's that guy?) ruins 'Cat's the Cradle' every few days.

Today's ruining of a classic song comes from DHT. There good reason why you've never heard of her. Here she has taken a ballad from 1977 and 'improved' by adding a hot dance beat!

Covers: an Introduction

Working at Walgreens, I hear a lot of terrible covers of good songs every day. I've decided that in an effort to add come content to this blog, I will share these butcherings here as often as I can. Enjoy.

My first entry comes from singer/actress Mandy Moore. Know for being annoying and being in many of the past decades worst films, she decided to take stab at a song that is far to 'hip' for her. Enjoy her ruining of the rhyme scheme to Umbrella.

3 months

It's been almost three months

I'm still still dishing out drugs at a ridiculous rate and I am a full time student at Kellogg Community College. My life is obviously really busy lately.

The main purpose of this post to to say that Carrie and I have been looking into buying a house. Looking into meaning we've seen about 25 houses so far and we put our first offer in on a place last week. It's exciting and frightening and all that. Imagine, very soon I could be a homeowner! I've been dwelling with parents of some kind for all but 4 months of the last 5 years.

Give us a cheer. This post is sponsored by procrastination.

Sunday, August 2, 2009

Hey, all (by that I mean Walter...in 2 or 3 months). I haven't written in quite a bit. I'm working now. Walgreens is my new home. I'm pumping out drugs at a mind-melting speed each day.

BCpedia is all but dead. Curiousity was raised, but not too seriously and I didn't have the motivation to put 5-8 hours a day into a site that no one was visiting. Maybe again in the future. Probably not.

I'm going to school again in the fall. I'm officially register and have financial aid all set up and all those ducks and such. It's really happening this time!

That's it for now. Good day.

Swapping your blood

So, you know how when someone dies and they get embalmed, their faces get all swelled and they don't look right? I feel that living people are starting are rock this look. Look at Joan Rivers. She could lay down in a casket and would totally look like she was pumped full of formaldehyde.

Manicured

I'm sitting with the window open listening to my father-in-law mow the law.

Hey, it's been a bit. I got a couple more job rejections today. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it here, but BCpedia.org is alive and well. Stop on over and see if you can help us out with a little contribution. That's all I've got for right now.

BCpedia

The project I'm currently calling 'BCpedia'(can you think of a better name?) will launch sometime in May. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Progress

I spent 4 hours yesterday trying to get a wiki started using the free options online. I've decided that I'm gonna go legit and buy a domain and host it somewhere. That's really all I have to say for now.

Civic Pride

I've been reading the paper lately. The past few days have had articles about the lack of a structured historical district or something. Basically, I've been reading about old houses and buildings downtown and past and current renovations. Also, they've mentioned a lot about structures that have been torn down (like the pic from yesterday's post. Tragedy IMHO) for whatever reason. Apparently this hotel was unnecessary but just a few years later we got this one just a few years later. I prefer the first one, personally.

Anyway, the point of this madness is that I spent 2 hours looking through these pictures and it got me all excited about my hometown (lame right?) So I've decided that BC should have a wiki documenting it's grand past and excellent current and it's tiring me out today. So much so that this blog has lost steam. Check out this video from today's Enquirer (the Battle Creek Enquirer, that is.)

Floors

Is it weird that I'm fascinated that rooms can be stacked onto each other?
(Do you know who lived in this house? I do.)

My motivation level for finding a job is probably at an all time low right now. It's was frustrating for six months to have no interest from any perspective employers. Then a month or so ago there was a bunch. The USPS wanted my urine. Meijer wanted to my resume. Well, I gave my pee to the government almost 2 months ago and I haven't heard anything since.

The Meijer situation was really disappointing. Dude told me I had a job only to change his mind or have his mind changed by the store Director.

The obvious problem is that we need money. Desperately. I was denied unemployment. Carrie is going to school full time and working as much as the daycare will let her given her work schedule. Being aggressive and showing very intense interest (and being incredibly qualified) didn't work. What other options are there?

break

I took a little break from the prose project last week and I'm getting back in now. Thanks to those who have read and given feedback on the progress so far (the offer to email to YOU is still out there.

I moved from the bed today. I spend most of my time sitting up against the castle typing or crusin' the internet or whatever. I decided to check out the workspace I made for Carrie and it's great to be sitting a piece of furniture designed for sitting! I took some pics complete with my deck of cards and giant patriot drinking glass--filled with the exciting water.

Check out some hot pics of myspace(TM). http://twitpic.com/2yxmx

I've been contemplating my need to feel self important and force myself to blog daily. I don't think I'm going to force myself to do it so much, but here is a video I found interesting.

These are some dance sequences recycled in some old disney films.

I'm delighted to see that nine seasons of South Park are available 'instantly' on Netflix. I'm hoping that more Comedy Central programing will follow. The ability to see the Daily Show on the TV would be awesome. There really needs to be a free (Microsoft approved) ad supported streaming service on the xbox. It's really dumb that there isn't.

Most of the tv and movies Carrie and I watch are streamed from Netflix. I think it would be in Hulu's interest to expand it's audience and increase it's ad revenue. I mean come on, you can watch Youtube on the effiing Wii.

Misleading

I don't know who that lying redhead thinks she's foolin'. Not me.

Wendy's isfast food. Sure, they probably aren't as quick as McDonalds or Burger King and they claim to never freeze the beef, but I stand in line to order and no one's bringing it to me. I get ketchup from a giant metal vat (and I pump it myself), and I throw away my own garbage when I'm done.

I was annoyed the first time I heard the slogan, but it's gone on way too long. What do you think? Is it time to change the slogan?

The First 4

here are the first four paragraphs of my story so far.

begin

The wind was blowing hard from the west and an enormous pile of snow would follow soon, maybe. The hilly southwestern Michigan landscape had been bare for weeks. Prudence Johnston was hopeful for the change. She had spent most of the past 8 months staring out the front window she was currently staring out and was hoping to finally see something new or at least see the normal landscape covered in a billowy white blanket.

Her husband entered through the front door, but she was not inclined to move. Speaking about the funeral he had attended was not something that interested her now. It would only further upset her.

She had been waiting anxiously for the year’s first snow, but so far God had been holding out. She could not remember a time in 35 years when there had been no snow this late into December. Was God torturing her? She couldn’t decide.

Looking, still, out this front window, past the pile of charred wood she noticed something new. A tiny dot was slowly advancing down the road.

Record Deal!

Holy crap...I'm still in shock a little bit...I don't know where to start.

I woke up this morning when my phone rang. I was having a nice dream about Dairy Queen and pretty annoyed. It was a number I didn't recognize, so I sucked it up hoping it was a job calling for an interview or something. Little did I know!

It was this guy (Frank something) from this instrumental music label. He said they heard of my stuff on the internet and think that I'll be a nice asset as an artist and as a musician in the studio! Holy geez!

I didn't even know what to say. They based out of Nashville, but they said I can record out of my house while Carrie's in school. That's amazing. And just two days after I got a job and then maybe didn't get a job... They're hooking me up an small expense account and  new computer so I can make that situation a little better.

Oh man, I'm super stoked.

Tuesday

I broke a nail one week ago today. I was reaching into a cupboard and I caught the top of it. My thumb nail bent in half. It bled a little and I had to cut it off. I don't think my thumb nail has been this short in 5+ years.

I finished the first draft of chapter one of my story this week. I'm working on some revisions right now and having some people other than Carrie read it. Let me know and I'll email you it if you want.

Can a story about bringing people back from the dead be logical? Give me some thoughts in the comments.

Peter Pan

You know that scene in Peter Pan where Wendy give Peter and thimble and calls it a kiss. Right after this he says, 'I want to give you a kiss' and she puckers up? Is that not how it's like interacting with women sometimes. They give you one thing and expect that same thing to be different (better) when you reciprocate. All while you're basing your actions of whatever definition they established in the first place?

I'm not saying this to complain about my wife (seriously). I was laying in bed and that scene popped into my head and I just laughed.

Unrelated: I got a job!

A Clean Face is a Safe Face

When did it become creepy to have facial hair? No respectable person looks like ZZ Top and I've been told that my beard is potentially off putting.

Looking at the past Presidents of the United States I see a rough estimate of social acceptance. Our first 16 Presidents were all clean faced. Abe Lincoln was the first with any kind of facial hair. All but two of the next 12 had weird, crazy hair patterns. Woodrow Wilson reestablished the hairless trend.

What was so different about 1860-1914? Why hasn't one President in the last 100 years had as much as a mustache or sideburns? What do you think?

Classical Conditioning

I love cereal. It's probably my favorite food. It's convenient, pretty edible, and involved milk. I've wondered (and discussed with Carrie) whether my love for food that won't melt my brain is simply because it's so tasty, easy, and covered in cow lactation or because I grew up seeing Tony the Tiger statues downtown and knowing people who watched in be made in factories and made up those excellent promotions on the back of the box.

What do you think? Have I been persuaded by my immediate surrounding or is cereal just that good? Do you like cereal?

Maybe it was just the sweet smell of Fruit Loops every time I went outside as a kid?

A quest

This post has traveled through time. I wrote this at 1:30 last night, but it published at 3:50 this afternoon. A list of predictions of things that happened overnight:

a. Someone famous died. From being old. I'll say Hugh Downs.
b. The Dow is down 200 points for some reason.

That's all I have for now. Enjoy my vision for the future.

19 years.

My parents were married 19 years ago today. Nice.

Also, watch the video and note that every man in it was completely shaven before using the Mirco Force

A New Hope

I used to blog a lot but stopped a year or two ago. I've been interested in writing lately and even have a secret blog and major writing project in the works. I thought I'd start a new blog sans pseudonym. Here is that blog. I hope to write daily. Go ahead and add my to your RSS reader or bookmarks or whatever. Thanks you.
